About Me

Hi! My name is Eunice Yiu. I am a cognitive scientist with a PhD from UC Berkeley.

I study how humans and AI systems build, generalize, and update models of the world, and what happens when those systems interact at scale with real people. My work combines behavioral experiments with controlled model evaluation to probe causal reasoning, interactive learning, and generalization in both humans and large multimodal models. I am increasingly focused on the societal consequences of deployed AI: how interaction patterns shape developmental outcomes, and how values get encoded and evolve through continuous human-AI interaction.

Oct 2026	Our risk assessment team at Common Sense Media released the AI Risk Assessment Report on ChatGPT for Teens, see media coverage by New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg.
Sept 2026	My paper with Google DeepMind, Acting without Knowing: Planning, Prediction, and Transfer Dissociate in Interactive Visual Physics, was accepted to NeurIPS 2026. My paper with Brown University's ARIA Institute, Truthfulness Is Not Enough: Prompt-Conditioned Evidence Selection in LLMs, was accepted as an oral at the NeurIPS 2026 Workshop on Large Language Models for Social Reasoning and Simulation.
Jul 2026	Our paper with Mila, Human Adults and LLMs as Scientists: Who Benefits from Active Exploration?, was presented at CogSci 2026.
Jun 2026	I joined the Cambridge Boston Alignment Initiative as an AI Safety Research Fellow.
